I've bragged on this book in the past. I ABSOLUTELY love this book! I own the 1st ed which came out in 1992. So it was definitely time for an upgrade. I think the fact that this book won't even bulge in price is definitely testament to how good it is. I was able to solve most of my fitting issues using this book. And it's an invaluable resource since I sew for clients. I love that it provides multiple suggestions for making fit adjustments/alterations.
(1992 version. I've had mine for a few years now. I can't even remember when I bought it . It's hands down one of my fave fitting books. The others being Vogue Fitting, Singer Pefect Fit, Palmer/Pletsch Fit for Real Bodies)
I can't wait to get my little greasy hands on this book. I'm so excited (thank you Jesus)!!!! I've waited a good while for updated version (feels like forever) and now I'll have it and at a significant discount. I'll be going to bed with a smile on my face. I can mark it off of my Christmas list. Now I'm just waiting for this 5th ed. book to go on sale.....
What about you,get any special deals on sewing related stuff as of late??? Are you waiting to get the perfect deal??? Do share!
(Update 6/4---Based on Rebecca's comments below I think I'm going to skip this one. So sad because I really had high hopes. I forgot to mention that I already own the 4th ed of this book which I really like. For kicks and gigles I may see if I can get my hands on an even earlier version. They're always selling and for dirt cheap.)
I have the 5th Ed. of Helen Joseph Armstrong book from school. I would recommend saving some money and get an earlier edition of the book. I have the 3rd ed. as well (got for real cheap at swap meet) and I think it is even better. I actually started bringing it to school instead of the 5th ed. because the drafts were better. Many of my teachers agreed. One of my best pattern instructors actually recommended the 2nd ed. I got to look through it, and it has the best drafts and fewer errors. The 5th ed. has so many errors its hilarious (if hilarious = annoying!). Email me if you are interested in hearing more about a couple of great pattern drafting books.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Rebecca! I failed to mention that I actually own the 4th ed that came out in 2005. I was going to upgrade because I figured that this book, like her draping book, had improved alot. Thanks for the warning. I will definitely mark this one off my list. Our of curiosity I'd love to see the 2nd version. I found the 3rd ed online and it looks so different from the 4th ed I own. Very interesting. You just always assume that newer editions would be better but guess that's not always the case:(
DeleteI got the first version of the book from Judith Rasband herself, I had the newer one spiral bound, which I highly recommend. I met Helen Joseph Armstrong two years ago, she is a fireball!
ReplyDeleteI ordered the first edition quite a few years ago. At the time, I didn't like it and sent it back. I think I wasn't ready for that much information. Now, the second edition is on my mind alot. I've heard it referenced on two different Thread Cult podcast interviews. I don't expect to be a lucky as you and find a reasonable priced volume, but one never knows!!!
ReplyDeleteElaray, even if you don't get the 2nd ed the 1st ed is still VERY good. I'm only upgrading since there's more info about pants fitting, etc in the newest edition!
DeleteI have the 2nd edition also and believe it's a treasure. I own the Helen Armstrong book but rarely open it.
ReplyDeleteI hope you will write a review - I am intrigued! congrats on your great deal!
ReplyDeleteYay I got mine in last month but didn't write a review.I haven't looked at it yet.
