This has been a very sentimental week! I celebrated my wedding Anniversary with my Wonderful Hubby (I love me some him!) and our daughter turned 8! We had a party/sleepover with some of her girlfriends over the weekend. I wanted to make a cute little top for her to wear to her party. Months ago she saw a fabric in my stash (It's colorful with gold shimmery streaks) that she really liked so the night before I cut out this pattern and whipped it together right before we had to leave. I used pattern---Butterick 5913. I love the cute "bat wings"tops as I like to call them. I don't have a formal review for this top since it's SOOOO EASY to make. I cut out the size 8 adding 3" to the length. But no other changes were needed. I did have her wear a little cami underneath I'm planning on making a few more. I like the style---it's a mix between cute and playful!
(Front view---I can't believe how fast she's growing!)
(Look at those sleeves)
(The saucy attitude pose LOL)
Ok, now I'm resuming wardrobe sewing for myself. I have an upcoming out of town trip that I need clothes for!!! More to come....
The lovely Anke over at http://www.flamencodressmaking.com/ was so kind to interview me for her newly created Sewing Business Success Stories interview program. She is a wonderfully talented Flamenco costume designer and I was all too thrilled when she asked for my participation. She came up with the marvelous idea to conduct interviews of business sewers to inspire and encourage those who may want to turn their sewing into a business but don't quite now how. You can see the interview below if you're interested.
Also, I'll be posting about sewing clothes in my next few posts but before I do I need to catch up on some house cleaning. Happy August! This month will be full of lots of sewing for sure. I finally get to start it off by sewing for me. Haven't done that in a while LOL! I was excited when Mari Miller creator of Seamster patterns asked me to be a part of spreading the word of about the upcoming Sewing Indie Month (SIM). To celebrate she has teamed up with other Indie patternmakers to create a wonderful bundle of patterns that are on sale through the 12! The top I'm wearing is one of the patterns. It's the Sutton blouse by True Bias and let me just say that I love this top! I love the interesting design lines and drape. I pulled out this beautiful Asian inspired dark berry polyester from my stash and I think it's a match made in Heaven. I LOVE this top! See pattern sale details below! Also, before I forget did you know I have a YOUTUBE show coming out in just 3 days???? I've posted it for a while on my FB page. (Front view. Hubby was gone, was in hurry for visiting friend to take a pick so I threw on some old capris. I plan to wear with black leggings and strappy heels. I like that this top can be dressed up or down.)
(On my body double form)
(Excuse after wear wrinkles. Just wanted to show that top was assymetrical---front shorter than back)
Here are the details about the sale.....
The sale will run from Monday August 3rd to Wednesday August 12th.
20% of bundle proceeds will be donated to the International Folk Art Alliance, which provides education and exhibition opportunities to folk artists from around the world. Just a few examples of what the International Folk Art Alliance has been able to accomplish by helping artists create stable, year-round livelihoods includes helping shelter women from domestic violence in Ecuador, building a school for children in Pakistan, empowering women in repressive cultures around the world, and feeding villages in Niger.
Sewing Indie Month (SIM) is a month-long celebration of indie sewing patterns where designers collaborate to bring you fun blog posts and informative tutorials. This year SIM will take place in September. It's accompanied by a sewalong contest with fantastic prizes. Since the patterns in the SIM Bundle 1 are mostly wovens, this sale gives you time to make muslins before the contest begins in September while supporting small women-owned businesses and raising money for charity.
This year the Sewing Indie Month HQ will be Sew Independent, which Mari from Seamster Sewing Patterns took over from Donna, who decided to step back from the site. You can buy the bundle and keep up to date with the latest SIM news on SewIndependent.com
