Sewing Jots & Tittles 7.22.11

"Sewing Jots & Tittles" is my weekly post where I get to ramble on and on about sewing related stuff that's been on my mind. Here what's been orbiting my brain.....
-Striped tank dress
Ever since I added this picture of Kim Kardashian in a striped tank dress to my Style Look Book,

I've been wanting a cute striped tank dress.  I picked up these 2 knits at Hancock fabrics & this pattern. I just have to get some solid knit to serve as a binding for the armhole and neckline. We'll see what happens.

-September Vogue
I just read HERE that the September Vogue will have almost 600 ad pages in it! If you're looking for some fashion inspiration well you'll definitely find within all of those pages. I can't wait to get my copy:)

-Bulk Elastic
Most everything I've been sewing lately has needed elastic. I definitely need to buy elastic in bulk especially since those $1.5 packages are adding up. I"ll look into that! I'll check out Atlanta Thread Supply.  Anyone have any good suggestions?

-New Shoes
I ran across the cutest shoes drastically marked down to $9 each.
(I'm happy I picked up a blue and yellow pair. I LOVE this style of shoe and have a tan and pink pair similar to these. I wish I could've bought them for these prices though.)

(a brown pair)

-McCall Fall Patterns
I'm not usually happy about planning my fashions for the fall because the thought of Summer coming to an end is a sad one. However looking at the new McCall fall patterns has gotten me excited about cool weather sewing.
I especially love 6396 (upper left pattern) and have already bought a great plaid for it. Now I just have to wait for cold weather. Around her it will be a while---maybe until November.

-Printed Jeggings
I saw these knit leggings the other day that were printed to look like jeans. How hilarious!

-Fabric I won!
I was delighted to get fabric that I won from Sheila's contest. There's a picture of it HERE. Thanks Sheila! I look forward to putting this to good use:)

NON-Sewing Stuff:

I'm completely addicted to this brand of Kettlecorn. I used to eat kc but stopped a few years back. I stumbled on this brand and am hooked. Yes, here's a now empty bag I purchased less than 18 hours ago. This stuff never sticks around. It's SO good! I eat so much of it that my lips swell a little from all  of the salt. I may need some therapy for this addiction. LOL!

I'm completely obsessed with Bravo's Million Dollar Decorator's reality show. Have you seen it? It's awesome. Being a small business owner, I'm captivated by these other business owners who use the Interior Decorating skills to work on multi million dollar projects. Each designer has their own personality, style, and astetic. Plus I love to see how they interact with their clients which range from easy to please to raging lunatics. I'd love to one day work on Million dollar projects one day! A girl can dream, huh?

Well that's all for now. Happy Sewing!

  1. OMG!! I have followed your blog for some time now. Always admired your shoe collection. Now I know we have similar tastes. I passed up the blue and yellow shoes because they weren't in my size. Both colors!! I bought the bone color in the brown shoes because I have one too many dark color shoes. I have a passion for shoes as well.

  2. I love the bulk elastic from www.zipperstop.com

Good zippers too by the way!

  3. Nice knits! I look forward to seeing them when done :)

  4. You have some fun projects coming up!

  5. I'm about to start working on a long tank dress and i was looking at the same mccalls pattern, too!!! I ended up going with S2189 because it was on sale, but i think either will work! Great minds... :).

  6. Oh yes, that kettle corn is good. Their other flavors rock as well.

I like those shoes. I just can't wear heels. they really stress my feet out. Plus, I'm dangerous on flats as it is. LOL!

I can't wait to see what you sew for the Fall!

  7. I keep telling myself I do not need anymore shoes, then I visit you and BAM!! those sandals are Hawt!!! love the colors your purchased.

Glad you received the package and look forward to your garment.

I also need to consider buying bulk elastic. I completed a skirt over the weekend and realized I didn't have anymore waist shaping for the skirt band. In a pinch I decided to use 1" elastic and made sure not to stretch it and it worked perfectly... stable & no rolling waist band.

  8. I thought I was going crazy with the two colored shoe photo...lol! Then I see you bought two different colors. I can't wait to see the striped dress. Stripes are my favorite pattern and I keep thinking about making a Vogue 1250 in stripes as a casual version.

  9. Love your striped fabric AND the shoes!!! What a deal - Oh how I need a pair of yellow strappys.....feel sorry for me? Lol! Such a flattering shoe! Fall sewing reminds me that I'll be back to work soon.....not QUITE ready yet! Can't wait to see your dresses!

  10. Wow! Along the way is a lot of fun ... I can not wait to see all these new projects, love your shoes, they are so cool!

  11. Cute, cute shoes! Can't wait to see the stripes in action.

  12. My daughter has a striped tank dress and it is absolutely adorable. Maybe I will have to make one!! :)

  13. Can't wait to see your striped maxi...and I'm with you on summer ending. I've been in denial even as the new fall patterns are coming out. I still have so many summer things to make!
Kettle Corn...my summer favorite snack. We have a local guy that makes it and sells it.

Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a comment and for following me on my 10,000 Hour Sewing Challenge:)
