1st Blogoversary Give-Away---#3 of 7

In case you didn't see my Original Post I'm hosting a Give-Away for everyday this week (7 total) in celebration of my 1st Blogoversary on November 28th. Please visit the original post to see all of the dates/ details about  the Give-Away's)

The only requirement is for you to 1. Be a Follower of my Blog and 2. Answer the Question posed in this blog entry.

Don't forget to spread the Word!

So here's the THIRD Give-Away Prize:

(Although Clair Shaeffer has a thicker and more comprehensive version to this book, this is still a great little handy guide to give you info on sewing some of the most common fabrics).
(Well, what do you know---I opened the book and it fell right onto my favorite fabric---KNIT Jersey! LOL!)

So since last night's question was a pretty loaded one we'll keep this one a little simple. You probaly know where I'm going with this. Well I already mentioned my favorite fabric (and you avid followers of this blog already knew that answer as well) -----knits-----in particular printed matte jersey knits. And I love to sew nearly everything with them---dresses and tops in particular. In the summer time a jersey maxi dress is the most comfortable thing to wear. I just love them!

So the question of the day is.....

What's your FAVORITE fabric to sew and what do you like to make most with it?

An answer to this question will enter you into the drawing for this book:)

  1. I don't think I can answer this, but I do love knits (esp. with my serger) - particularly sweater knits. Wish I could figure out where to find knit cashmere by the yard. I also like sewing with double knit.

(BTW - I have the Claire Schaeffer book so pls. don't enter me for this giveaway. Someone else can benefit from it!)

  2. I have this book out from the library, but I'd love to own my own copy! I love sewing with wool - it smells nice, steams into place, presses like a dream and always feels expensive and high-quality. And it's warm, which is very important now that the snow's falling! ;)

  3. I don't think I have one favorite fabric. I love to sew just about anything out of any fabric. I think I sew the most with cottons- all varieties.

  4. I totally love sewing knits. I live in knit tops.

  5. Knits have to be my favorite. The softer and stretchier, the better. I was cautioned to stay away from them as a beginner, but I have only had good luck so far!

  6. I love cotton for its simple effortlessness, it almost sews itself, however, I have a new coverstitch machine so I am loving KNITS, of any kind, having the right equipment makes for a simple and quick process and knits are effortless to wear, unlike cotton which needs pressing even if hung straight off the line :-).

  7. I sew mainly knits lately but my favorite project is sewing a blouse with cotton-any kind of cotton. I love the crisp collars, the buttonholes, picking buttons...when it's done, I love the smell of light starch on my new cotton blouse.

  8. i love cotton for the ease of sewing it and it suits more for the hot n humid climate where we live in. if i indulge then i would also choose silks, they are timeless and beautiful though bit difficult to work with.

  9. I love to sew with merino wool knits. So easy to work with. Just wish there were more prints out there. I love it for tops, cardies and jackets.

  10. It is always a pleasure to sew with good quality cottons. Liberty lawn is an absolute dream to sew. Cotton summer tunic dresses would be my favourite to sew with this fabric.

  11. This is an easy one! I love cotton, easy to sew and press, no fuss fabric. And the item is of course dresses and more dresses!

  12. I'm delurking! I live in Beijing, China so my favorite fabric to sew with currently is silk and especially silk brocade. I guess because it is quite inexpensive and because I am enthralled with all the designs. I've been making lots of table runners, pillow covers, etc. (I am a beginner!) My friends think I am crazy because all of these things can be bought very cheaply already made here. Call me crazy - I love sewing!

  13. I only wear natural fibers. I have sensitive skin and also in protest to synthetic fibers. So I would have to say.... COTTON

  14. I love corduroy. I love making fall/winter dresses and jumpers out of corduroy for my daughters. I'm actually getting ready to cut out one right now. I don't know why I like it so much, but I do. I also love knits of any kind. So comfy to wear.

  15. Knits are great because knit garments are easy and fast to make (usually).

But most of all I love corduroy - pants, jumpers, skirts... I'd love to make a corduroy jacket for myself.

  16. I love sewing with natural fibers like wool, silk, cotton, hemp, etc. They just feel better, and seem to sew better than synthetics. BTW--Happy Thanksgiving! Hope you and your family have a lovely day. I'm grateful to bloggers like you who take the time to share your skills and creativity.

  17. I love cotton interlock knits! In fact, I love knits period! I mostly like to make dresses and tops with this fabric.

  18. I like this question, but it's a tough one for me to answer. I mostly sew with whatever I can find on discount at Joann, so a lot of cheapo polyester. The best part of polyester is that you can melt the raw edges and not have to finish the seams.

If given my druthers, though, I'll always use silk. I just love the feel of any kind of silk, even if the slinky silks can be hard to sew with. If only it weren't so expensive...

BTW, thanks for asking these questions for the giveaways, it's motivated me to delurk and join the conversation!

  20. Undoubtedly knit fabric is easy and grateful to sew. It "hides" the little mistakes of adjustment. I sew love it!

  21. I am always very tempted by knits - their beautiful patterns, various stretchability, how nicely they drape around body and how super comfy they are. I just love summer dresses made from knits. However, in my opinion, they are not the easiest fabric to sew with. On the other hand, I enjoy sewing with cottons - cutting, sewing and pressing is so nice and easy with them.

  22. Anything knit fabric is a friend of mine! I find myself pulling out the knits more than any other fabric. Easy to sew, easy to wear...works for me!

    ReplyDelete
  23. That's an easy question for me...Rayon Lycra Knit is my favorite fabric and I love making tops with it! It makes great dresses too but I've not made as many with it. It's so soft and feels so good on the body. Make's exceptional outfits and is very easy to sew with!!!

  24. Drapy fabric like charmeuse and georgettes for bias cut dresses and blouses.

    ReplyDelete
  25. My favorite fabric is suiting weight fabrics that resist wrinkling. I like to make skirts and jackets with this fabric.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Cotton. I am quite the beginner and cotton is quite simple.

  27. There is a serious toss up as to what is my all time favorite fabric to sew. I love sewing knits, because they are easy, quick and I find them forgiving. I have actually run into very few that I've had a problem with - those of course ended up in "file 13". My other favorite is wool/wool blends mainly because of their pressability (another of my made up words). Most woolen fabric press up so sharp and crisp. I've loved woolen fabrics for so long. It's hard for me to pass by a rack of them without feeling them up (lol),

  28. I like wearing knits but hate sewing them. My favorite fabric so far was a jacquard - no slipping and you could finger press it.

  29. Cottons are easy especially printed they hide a lot of mistakes, using the right threads. Especially for a beginner.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Ok, this one is easy: wool crepe, and I LOVE to sew jackets/suits.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Wool blends and suiting. Stable, nice to the touch.

  32. I like knits as well! My favorite thing to make is dresses. I pretty much live in dresses!

  33. Regular ol' cotton for this noob. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  34. I thinks knits are the easiest to sew- especially for wrap dresses.
However, I have been venturing into Home Dec fabric to the expensive looking taffetta jackets- like that is sold at Dillards.

  35. I love wearing knits, but don't have much experience sewing them. I love sewing cottons though, because they press so nicely! (And let's face it....they're easy to work with, lol)
