  1. Do we have to be in the USA to enter? If not:

It's a bit of a cop-out but I like 2000-present. We've never had more freedom to blaze our own trail and refuse to follow the pack. It's not just nicer to find your own style, it's more fun to see how other people dress. :-)

  2. I must say I love the style of the 40's for the tailored and classy lines of the dresses.

  3. My favorite era: the 1920's. Luxurious fabrics and a radical change in women's clothing. The first decade of truly modern clothing coinciding with the right to vote for women.

  4. I loved the 70's, the time was exciting, people were experimenting with dressing and finding their own voice in fashion. It was a very colorful period, where Polyester was Queen. I just loved the freedom of the dress.....

  5. Great giveaway! It's hard to pick a favorite era but, I'll choose late 50s/early 60s for the classic silhouettes.

  6. 1920's - for the same reasons as Marsha. Can you imagine how exciting it must have been for the ladies who could free themselves from those terrible corsets, cut their hair short, have cute shoes rather than the formal buttoned up boots, and wear comfortable, stylish clothes from gorgeous fabrics - but most importantly, dressing was fun! My wedding dress was a 1920's style :)

Thanks to one of your earlier posts . . . . Santa will be bringing me this book for Christmas, but please enter me into Mr. Jim's DVD draw!

    And congrats on you blogiversary!!

  8. Happy blogversary and happy Thanksgiving Victoria! I like the 50's, I Think the reason is that I always enjoy my grandmothers pictures when they were young. They looked very feminine and put together .

  12. My wife and I are working on an e-book with the goal being to give kids and teenagers an introduction to sewing, and given your expertise, I wanted to ask for your advice on a few things. Drop us a line?

  13. My favorite fashion era is the 1940's. The dresses were so elegant and put together. No one left the house looking a hot mess like people do these days going to Wal-mart in their pajamas. I would love either of your giveaways but especially Mr. Jim's dvd. Thanks Victoria!

  14. Happy 4th, Victoria!
I agree with many - love the 40th look, with modern fabric, of course.
I'd love to get the book, since I already have Mr. Jim's DVD

  15. Happy 4th year anniversary. We have been so happy to have you with us.
I would say the 1950's, the dresses were so feminine and the music was so romantic.

  16. Happy Anniversary. I love the 1940's era. I love being feminine. That is one reason that I sew. In the 1940s, women love being women. They were not trying to compete with a man because they understood their beautiful role. I would love to receive either one of the give aways. Congratulations Again.

  19. Just found your blog and have been enjoying your posts.....i think my favorite 'era' if you will, is right now! i think it's a great time for fashion because we as women have so many different styles to choose from!!! Whether we're SAHM's or out in the corporate world, we have so many choices available to us. we don't have to dress like June Cleaver - unless we WANT to!!!

  20. I am a mid-20th century girl and if I had to narrow it down it would be the 1960's from start to finish. Within the decade fashion evolved at such a rapid pace and is to this day so influential as well as inspirational.

  21. Happy 4th blogversary! I think I like the fashion from the current period. I like the freedom to mix colors, textures, patterns, etc.

  22. The 70's! That's the decade I learned to sew! Happy Blogversary!

  23. Happy blogiversary! My favorite era was the 1960's, the Jackie O era. I remember as a child growing up in the mid-to late sixties, that my mom was the best dresser ever! She wore the pearls, gloves, shoes, and fabulous hairstyles to compliment her look. A wonderful time period of fashion!!!

  25. I have had this book from the library and agree that it is fabulous. If I had to choose a favorite era, I would have to say that I have always loved the lovely, feminine garments of the Edwardian era (but would not want to wear a corset!). Otherwise, I love the designs of Coco Chanel, nipped and tucked a bit and the style of Jackie Kennedy so after the impractical Edwardian whites, I would have to say the 60s for Jackie Kennedy's style, and things like sleeveless A-line skimmers, gorgeous and timeless gowns and basically classic style clothing. Thanks for an opportunity to have this book as my very own. Good luck, everyone.

  26. It is so hard to pick an era and I've been drooling over this book - it's in my amazon cart. lol.
I love the 50's with all the cute blouses, shirt dresses and poofy skirts. The time seemed so much more innocent and beautiful.

  27. I am forever switching back and forth between decades. However, if I had to choose one, it would be the 1950s, in all its petticoated glamour!

  30. I love he 1960 for the bright colors, colorful ethnic patterns. I'm thinking more along the lines of Hair (so maybe this is 1970's?), not pop art, but I love how the classic designs were turned around.

  31. Thank you for 4 years of sharing! I love your blog. I am a huge fan of Katherine Hepburn's iconic style in the 40's. The classic tailored clothes are timeless.

  32. I love your blog and I think it is so inspiring to see what other people sew. I love the fashion of the 1930s and 40s. I think the unique things about that era are the ways gathering and shaping were used to create a flattering silhouette. For example, gathering or pleats at one shoulder and then at the the opposite hip to create a visual flow to the garments.

  33. Congratulations on your anniversary. I like the style of Audrey Hepburn it is very classy to me. I'm not sure if that is the 40's or 50's or what. I guess I need to start reading. Msyp1@aol.com

  34. Congrats on your anniversary! I don't really sew vintage, but like the design lines from the 40's...so figure-flattering :-)

  35. I think my favorite era is the mid 1800s. The gowns were so beautiful. I have always loved seeing them in pictures or museums. I am sure I would feel differently if I actually had to wear them instead of just looking at them.

  36. Happy Blogversey can't believe its been 4 years. Anyway my favorite era would be the 20s. I love the Flapper style dresses....

  37. Happy Anniversary. I really enjoy reading your blog. I think my favorite is the Audrey Hepburn/Jackie Kennedy era--late 50s and early 60s. I love the simplicity of the garments and the attention to detail. Pretty much the way our First Lady dresses today. I guess it is a timeless look.

  41. Happy blogoversary! I love current fashion because of the variety. It has something from every era... Also, the way different combination of details and silhouettes of the past can produce a totally new look.

  42. My favorite era (as far as wearing ) has got to be the 70's . Bellbottoms, fringes, peasant skirts and blouses,Macrame belts and flowwy hairstyles.

  43. Congratulations on all of your endeavors. I love the styles of the mid 40's to early 50's. Dorothy Dandrige, Eartha Kitt & Lena Horne are my style icons. I've always wondered though, how their clothing fit so well and there wasn't a VPL in sight. I am still trying to find the secret to the narrow waist look.
