I ran across the article "10 Pants Every Woman Should Own" and it's made me reevaluate my pants collection. I'm sad to report that out of the 10 pair of pants suggested I only have three of them, the Leggings, Trousers, & Wide Leg Pants. To be quite honest I don't wear alot of pants because it's hard to buy pants that are long enough for me, which is why I mainly wear capris (I LOVE me some capris!!!). Secondly, I haven't figured out how to sew pants that fit perfectly--although I'm getting very close. But this is my year and I guarantee I will be sewing all of my pants from this point on---I can feel it. I look forward to sewing up some of the "missing styles". I would love to have the "persona altering pants" and have always wanted some stretch pleather leggings! I have to admit, having different styles of pants in my wardrobe sure will help me in creating outfits. Remember, it's not about having a large quantity of clothes but about having enough different styles to maximize your wardrobe.
Ok, you look over the list. Do you have all of the suggested pants?
I read the article yesterday as well, and I didn't own enough of the essentials myself...But I am looking to change that soon..
ReplyDeleteInteresting! Personally, I could skip a few of those. However - I find that once a pants pattern is perfected, you can make them up in various fabrics and they look completely different. In winter (at least up here) there is nothing better than a pair of wool trousers - they keep you warm and look good for a multitude of occasions.
ReplyDeleteI wear pants 99% of the time and I have to say that even I do not have all those styles. It's food for thought, though, and for SWAP. I have many jeans, many beach/loose linen type pants, some cords, and lots of arty, interesting pants. I have moved into perfecting my slack patterns and Clovers so the pants are less noticeable and I can draw attention upwards. During the colder months I like to focus on cool jackets and interesting accessories. During the warm months, I seem to reverse that and wear simple tops but "weird" pants. Thanks for a thought provoking post.
ReplyDeleteI do have a lot of pants, because they are practical for my lifestyle, but I don't have many styles. I've joined Lorri's sew along, and we are starting with black ponte pants. I wonder if this leg of the sew along would suit you?
ReplyDeleteWhat a great guide for assessing my closet and thinking about what pants to sew! I love this and thank you for sharing it!
ReplyDeleteThat is a useful guide. It's all about the quality not quantity!
ReplyDeleteNice post Victoria! I am missing three...the boyfriend jean (which I personally don't like on me!), the persona & the bold color jean or pant. I've always been afraid of a bold color pant, maybe this year it's time to jump out of that box! Right?
ReplyDeleteOh, my gosh, that is SUCH a good guide! It fits right in with my wardrobe update and how I really want to figure out pants for once and for all. I plan to make a few more pairs of bright skinnies to go with my pink ones. But I never would have thought of print pants...now I want some!
ReplyDeleteKind of a dumb article...no way every body is going to look good in all of those types. However, it's a good idea to have a variety of pants and to think outside your go-to style and try something new.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed looking over this article. I, like you, have been wanting to make a pair of pleather leggings. I have the fabric, but I know the reality of wearing them here is silly. However, I do think they would be fun to have when I travel to the mainland again, so at some point I will make them. Good luck with perfecting your pants fit this year!
ReplyDeleteYou are my hero for diving into such important and complex subjects such as pants fitting. I too have been knee deep in great books learning.
