Fabric Hunting! Your Help Needed!!!!

Hey Guys, you are some of the most resourceful and smartest folks I know so I'm really in need of your help. I'm trying to find a fancy textile for a gown I'm making for a client and I've checked several online fabric stores but haven't really found anything I want. Can you recommend some more online fabric stores. I'm specifically looking for sellers of fancy fabrics but am open to looking at other types as well. I'm familiar with Mood Fabrics, Fabric.com, FashionFabricClub.com and a few others I can't think of right off hand. Please leave your favorite fabric sites in the comment section! I will be eternally greatful! Thanks so much for your help!

  1. Hi Victoria - I use Sewaholic's list of online fabric sellers for my 'fibre finder' posts - there are some really amazing stores on there! http://sewaholic.net/online-fabric-shopping-the-big-list/
    Good luck!

  2. GorgeousFabrics.com is my favorite. You could also try EmmaOneSock.com, SilhouettePatterns.com (Peggy also sells fabric), MarcyTilton.com, bandjfabrics.com, richlinfabrics.com, supremefabrics.com (I bought beautiful lace from here for a wedding dress I'm making), elliottbermanfabrics.com, fishmansfabrics.com (this is a wonderful store, but the online shop is a bit lacking - you could always give them a call). You might want to check out the book, "How to Start a Home-Based Fashion Design Business" by Angela Wolf. The resources she lists in the book are worth the price alone. It's a good introductory guide to starting a fashion line or custom sewing business.

  10. Victoria, I love Fabrique Fabrics out of Dallas, TX. I live in Houston, and will drive to their wonderful store! They have online shopping too! Also lookup TexStyles out of Austin, TX. I just found out about them yesterday from one of my sewing friends. They are a wholesaler, and will ship worldwide.

  12. If you know the particular type of fabric you want, eBay can actually be a good source. I've used a few eBay fabric sellers (not individuals selling one-offs, but professional sellers who have relationships with the mills). Lycra4Sale won't have formal fabric, but if you ever need swimsuit fabric they are awesome. I've also bought from Uptown Fabrics and was very pleased with the quality.

  16. Try Banksville fabric in Connecticut. They don't have many pics but in the past I have called, explained what I was looking for and swatches arrived.

  18. Try banksvilledesignerfabrics.com They don't have a conventional website, but if you send them an email with what you want they will send samples. There is a small fee. They have fabulous dressy fabrics and everything else as well. You probably have tried emmaonesock.com, but she does have some lovely things. She also has all kinds of silk in a lot of colors. Try bandjfabrics.com. They have amazing things. If you don't see what you want on the website give them a call and they will send samples if they have what you are looking for. They charge a fee online for samples but if you call for something not on the website they will send them for free. They have quick service.

  19. You may want to check Vogue Fabrics they have really nice fabric. My last order from them was a very generous cut of a polyester crinkle. I ordered enough to make a blouse but they sent enough to make a dress at no extra charge!!
