What Really Scares Me......

For some reason, as of late, my soon to be six year old has been on a mission to try and scare me. She wants to see if she can get a startled reaction out of me. She tries to sneak up on me, hide and jump out of closets, etc but it never works. What can I say, I’m pretty slow to react. Well on tonight she tried one last attempt—sneaking up on me while I was seated and screaming right next to me. Needless to say it was another epic fail because I didn’t even flinch and the only thing that I ended up with was a ringing ear drum. What can I say, I’m not very reactive. She was so disappointed!!! You know, only in the way that little kids are---the way that melts your heart.  I literally felt bad for her. So I thought I’d give her a break and help her out. You know give her a hint on how to scare me. And it’s hilarious, without skipping a beat I told her “ if you really want to scare me trying pretending to use my good sewing scissors to cut paper”. I was amazed at how quickly that slipped out. And how true that is…….the thought utterly terrifies me!!!LOL! What can I say we serious sewers are an interesting breed, huh?!? LOL!!!! That's one of my sewing nightmares (knocking on wood). What's yours?

  1. Lol!! Victoria, Can I borrow some of that I'm-slow-to-reacttitude?? I mostly react before my brain starts working and most often regret it.

  2. You must be a very calm person!

My kids sporadically get interested in sewing, and when they do I am petrified they're going to run over a finger. More of a day-to-day nightmare though is of my cat shreddding and chewing my patterns - I know she wants to!

  5. Ha! My mom's sewing scissors were sacred growing up. We knew if we used them for paper we better hide really good before doing so, because if caught it was to the gallows with us.

  6. You could probably tell me 'I'm going to scare you now' and I would still jump! lol I guess my biggest sewing fear is going to sew and all of my machines not work.

  7. Oh I am so not like you...I jump at the drop of a hat! LOL!! My biggest sewing fear is working on something at the last minute (which happens more than I like!) and you ruin it!

  9. Wow, you are really unflappable! I was out doing some weeding and my husband came up behind me and started talking, just you know, regular, not trying to scare me or anything. Well, I jumped and gasped so fast (as usual)! He said, "Um, I live here." haha My current biggest sewing fear is that my vision will fade faster than I can sew up all of my black fabric!

  10. My kids knew growing up that my sewing shears were sacred - use them on paper and I just might kill ya. LOL. They were routinely threatened not to use them EVER. My biggest sewing fear so far was about 9 years ago when I ordered a Saree from India to make its daughter's prom dress with it. The fear of cutting it wrong had me procrastinating so long on that dress. It wasn't like I could run to the store for more fabric if I messed it up. In the end it came out great, she loved it, it was a one of a kind, and I'm glad I did it.
