I'm absolutely delighted! As of yesterday I became the proud owner of a "gently used" Brother 2340 CV coverstitch machine! A Coversitch machine has been on my Christmas Wish List forever----well for the last 2 years!
I found the machine on Ebay and it's being sold through a seller who used it twice but decided she didn't need it. I was able to swoop it up for $299 with $27 s/h charge. So I ended up getting a good deal for it considering that I've seen it being sold for much more. You can read machine specs here. I originally didn't have the Brother Coverstitch in mind. I was too busy stalking the Janome CoverPro CP but after realizing that it only had a double needle (wide) stitch option I turned my attention to the Janome CoverPro 1000CP and although it's their brand new coverstitch machine, I didn't wan't to pay an "arm and a leg" for it. So I did a little research and looked at some reviews and discovered the Brother 2340CV was just what I needed.
Now mind you, the reason I really didn't want to spend alot on a Coverstitch machine is because I already have one. I own the Huskylock 936 and have had it for 7 years now, I think.
I love, love, love my Serger (which also can convert into a coverstitch machine). To me it's the best one on the planet and takes the guess work out of serging. It's computerized and with a few punches of a button to select fabric and stitch type I can manually set the thread tension to it's recommendations and voila---perfect serging. However, I'm not exactly stoked with its coverstich capabilities. They're ok but not consistently good---at least when it comes to stitching over joined seams. Besides, it's somehwhat a hassle converting it from serger to coverstitch and back. So I'm happy that will be a thing of the past and I'll be able to serge and hem in a quicker fashion.
Well Friday can't get here soon enough. I hope it arrives safe and sound. The timing will be perfect---I'll need it to hem up a knit top I'm currently working on. I will get lots of use out of this machine so it's a worthy investment. I sew mostly knits (it's my favorite fabric to sew with) so with knits alone I'll "put alot of miles" on it!
How about you---do you own a coverstitch machine? Do you love it? Use it alot or little?
I have this machine and I love it! I hope you enjoy yours!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the acquisition of your new machine. I have a different dedicated cover stitch machine that I use a little.
ReplyDeleteOMGosh! I just decided to buy that same machine and for the same reason!! You got a great deal. i can't wait to see what you do with it!
ReplyDeleteI just ordered this machine. I can't wait to use it. I've printed all of the tutorials on Sew-4-Fun. I also ordered the double fold binder. Congrats on your new machine!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations. New additions to our sewing rooms are always welcome. TFS.
ReplyDeleteEeek! That's so awesome! Congrats.
ReplyDeleteYour new addition will fit in nicely with the rest of the family!
ReplyDeleteCongrats, enjoy your new machine.
ReplyDeleteLucky you! Congrats on the new machine.
ReplyDeleteI did something similar to what you are doing. I have a Babylock Evolve that does coverstitch as well as serge, but got tired of switching it over. I bought the Janome CP 1000, but couldn't bond with it, so I sold it. Instead I bought the Brother 3034(?) serger and leave the Babylock setup for coverstitch. Works great and is a terrific workhorse of a serger.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great deal. You will love having a dedicated machine for coverstitching. I have one and use it all the time!
ReplyDeleteI love a good deal! I'd be following in your footsteps, but our house is too small to hold a lot of sewing equipment. :-( I do have a nice sewing machine though. I also got it on ebay at a good price.
ReplyDeleteCongrats!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on getting the coverstitch machine. I have a different machine and love it. You will love having the coverstitch machine and not having to fiddle with adjusting your serger to do coverstitch.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your new addition. I have the janome 1000cp, but haven't used it in over a year.
ReplyDeleteI am so excited for you! I know that with all those knits, you will be keeping this machine busy. Yay!
ReplyDeleteI made a resolution this week. I dragged out an (easy) apparel pattern to try. Will follow your lead and make a muslin first. (see? I do "listen" hahahahaha). I want some fun slacks and skirt.
Congratulations! It looks wonderful. I always feel so inspired when I get some new sewing kit!
ReplyDeleteI'll be anxious to hear about your experiences with this machine. I don't have a cover stitch machine. In fact, I don't even own a serger... yet... even though I frequently sew knits. I have a Brother sewing machine that I absolutely love. Countless miles of sewing, and it's still going strong.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new addition. I have the Huskylock S25. However, I am hating it. Had to send it back to the dealer to get it serviced as the automatic tension setting is completely off and the touch screen decided to stop working.
ReplyDeleteNow you are making me want a coverstitch machine...... ! Lovely machine Victoria, I am so looking forward to all your lovely creations with it!
Hey congrats. You are one lucky girl.
ReplyDeleteA serger has been in my wish list for long as well and it still is, hope my hubby happens to this comment of mine, wishful thinking i know, given that he would check any sewing blog!
Congrats on your new addition. I'm currently looking to add a coverstitch machine. I'm looking at Babylock's coverstitch BLCS-2
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your new machine and getting it at a bargain! That is always so sweet.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations. I got mine back in November. You'll love it. I love knits too, one thing that I realized was how much thread that's needed for it along with your serger. You can always wind bobbins but I don't want to do all of that so I just stocked up when Hancocks has thread on sale. You'll love it!! Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteI've had this CS machine for several years as well as the matching Brother serger. The serger is flawless and easy to use. The coverstitcher takes a little more user finesse - adjusting tensions, holding the fabric slightly taut from front and back to prevent it being sucked under, and lately I started using regular machine thread instead of the weaker serger thread because the hem thread were snapping. I'm guessing those issues are no different from other sergers - I'm sure you'll get a lot of use out of your new machine!
ReplyDeleteJACKPOT!!!! Way to go! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Victoria!! I would love to have one but haven't got one so far. I'll be excited to see what you do with yours and how you like it!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new machine!
ReplyDeleteI have that one too Victoria and you are going to L*VE it! :)
ReplyDeleteI have this machine and just love it. I bought mine on ebay too. There are some good tips about it on Belinda's blog http://sew-4-fun.blogspot.com/search/label/Coverstitch. The reason I like mine so much is that it's never temperamental, rarely if ever skips stitches and is very easy to use. I'm sure you'll enjoy your new machine.
ReplyDeleteThis machine makes sewing knits so much fun! Enjoy!
