1st Blogoversary Give-Away------ #1 of 7

In case you didn't see my Original Post I'm hosting a Give-Away for everyday this week (7 total) in celebration of my 1st Blogoversary on November 28th. Please visit the original post to see all of the dates/ details about  the Give-Away's)

The only requirement is for you to 1. Be a Follower of my Blog and 2. Answer the Question posed in this blog entry.

Don't forget to spread the Word!

So here's the FIRST Give-Away Prize:

(This book is great and is filled with 20 DIY projects. It even includes a CD which contains all of the pattern pieces necessary for the projects. You can customize each pattern by adding your personal measurements and then print them out.
(some of the cute projects you can make)

A great book. I hope you win it:)...Now on to the question.....

The title of this book pretty much sums up what most of us are all about. There is so much sheer joy and complete satisfaction that comes with not only being able to make your own garments but also being able to proclaim that fact to those strangers, friends, and family who all stop you to ask you about them. I live to make my own clothes--I just love the idea and practicality of it. I'm always trying to push myself to new limits and try my hand at sewing things outside of my comfort zone. However, there are some things that I refuse ---and I mean vehemently refuse to sew. For me that would be undergarments. Now I know some of you may have gasped but yes, oh yes it's true. I have no desire whatsoever to sew my own bra, panties, etc. (well boy shorts and cami's are the exceptions). For me I think it's more so of a handling issue. I don't want to handle underwire (unless it's in a corset) and don't even get me started on those tiny pieces of elastic. Just the thought of trying to sew a thong would make my toes curl (I mean really, how do you handle something so small and elasticized)! That's just crazy coming from someone who loves knits, huh?  LOL! Seriously, you couldn't pay me to do it! LOL! Ok, maybe I'm going overboard but it's true. Now I ENJOY when you Guys do it (K-Line I always love yours) but for me, it's just something I'd rather not take the time and sew. So to you I pose the question......

What Item(s) Do You REFUSE to Sew and Why?

Leave your answers below to be entered in the Give-Away for this book. I can't wait to read your answers!!!

  1. Well, I never say never, but I really have no interest in making my own undies, either. Slips and nighties maybe, but bras and panties... I don't think so. Also, I'm pretty sure I'll never make my own swimwear.

  2. Gosh that is a tricky one because I haven't encountered much I would never sew. I used to think I'd never sew a bra, but now I'd really like to. Okay, for sure I'd never sew a jock strap! lol Happy Blogoversary!! :-)

  3. I have no desire to sew bras, gloves, hats. To be honest I could change my mind but not for now.

  4. Ha! With my particular experience to date, it's a miracle I don't say I'm never sewing bras again :-) (But I can't help it, I've got the bug.)

I have no interest in sewing home stuff like table cloths and duvet covers and pillow shams or curtains. Just doesn't do a thing for me.

And I'm not so interested in hats or gloves either.

  5. I absolutely refuse to sew handbags for myself after a recent experience! I needed a new purse and thought it would be a great idea, and boy was I wrong! It took FOREVER and I didn't see myself using the final product so I am going to gift it. I already bought myself a new purse at Dillard's! :)

  6. Not sure that there are any clothes I would not make. I never want to sew curtains though.

Thanks for the chance at your give-away.

  7. I have a list of nots - it might be easier to do the list of will sew as opposed to won't sew - well here goes: undergarments, coats of any kind (I live in Qld in Australia it's rarely cold), bedding, curtains, tableware, patchwork quilts, hats and gloves. However any apparel (other than coats) I am definitely keen to sew :-), especially for my little boys.

  8. I'm not really sure there is anything I refuse to sew. I have yet to sew underwear and I'm not sure I ever will. It just seems that it would cost more to make my own, and I'm not really sure it would be rewarding. I love a good challenge, so it makes it hard to say never!

  9. I'd never wear a thong, much less sew one! Let's see, I don't believe I will ever sew a man's tailored jacket. yep, never. oh, and vestments, I'll never sew those either. Draperies, bedspreads and outdoor furniture covers, sailboat sails, anything with fur (faux or not) also are on the list of neversew.

  10. I am still to master the art of saying NO. well i do manage to do it to self. I hate doing alterations on RTW outfits...imagine your relatives buying RTW garments 2 size too big for them and asking you if you can alter it with a grin.... it puts me in a spot as to how do i refuse...i really hate doing alterations on RTW garments...someone please let them know...

  11. Tough question....at this point I'm not sure there is anything I'd REFUSE to sew, I actually would like to try everything at least once. I really don't see myself sewing bedding though. Fabric isn't all that cheap, and so most of the time you're better off finding something on sale. (I wouldn't make thongs either, now that I think of it....) After a recent offer I made, I also would rather not do any unpaid alterations for friends/family....not worth the hassle!

  12. Hmmm! Well, there is almost nothing that I refuse to sew. However, If given a choice between sewing clothes and lingerie/undergarments, I would choose clothes. For me, I value time and spending so much time on sewing undergarments does not justify my efforts as I can just go out and buy them and I know they will fit well. The other things would be bedsheets. It's just not time and money savvy to sew them myself. I rather buy them at the yearly sale. In Singapore, I know I can get a good quality bed sheet set at a really good price during the sale time of the year.

  13. Interesting question! I feel like I would sew anything, maybe except a bra - that needs a lot of effort for something I can get more professionaly looking and fitting in a shop. I dont think it would bring me the joy of sewing. And probably socks - for the same reasons :-). Otherwise, I cant think of anything that would put me off from sewing. I am afraid of sheer and flimsy fabrics, but I still (masochistically) want to sew with them :-).
Thank you for the give-aways, even if I dont win :-). Happy blogaversary!

  14. I am a novice at this so I can't refuse anything at this point. I am just about to start my 10,000 HOURS.

  15. I refuse to sew underwear. (a) I don't wear some things and (b) my boobs are so massive I prefer to leave them in the hands of professionals.

I also refuse to sew for other people outside my home. My mother is to blame for that. When I was a teenager beginning to get my sew mojo on, my mother would have me do all these alterations and sewing for other people. What I didn't know was that they were paying her and she wasn't passing the money on to the person who was actually doing the work. That clinched it for me. I no longer trust other people.

  16. Covered buttons. Even though I am a hand-embroiderer the thought of taking the time to place a tiny piece of cloth over a little button - Aarrghh!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Never say never, but I don't think I'll be sewing any menswear anytime soon, certainly not anything tailored. I lack the knowledge and patience to do it and at heart I'm just another selfish seamstress.

  18. I thought I was already a follower because I have you on my blogroll, but I realized I wasn't. I took care of that so I am now a follower. AS far as what I refuse to sew, I would never say never to anything, but I think I would be hard pressed to ever sew jeans. I like the idea, but I already have trouble sewing pants, and I think jeans would be even more difficult.

  19. Every day 'house' clothes. My sewing time is so precious Id rather sew higher end garments which cost more to buy.

  20. Happy Blogoversary! I hesitate to say there is one thing I won't sew, but there are lots of things I don't like to sew! I do NOT quilt, or do home dec. I prefer clothing. I also haven't jumped on the underwear bandwagon, but I won't say I'll never do it. I remember once saying I'd never sew my own jeans - had to eat those words!!

  21. Great question!! I would have to say I'd refuse to sew a bra, I just cannot imagine getting a good fit when it takes me years to find a good one in a store that fits. I seriously went the better portion of my teen years and the first five years of my marriage with two bras, just was never able to find a good fit anywhere (I finally have a good collection now) so I'll say I would never sew a bra.

I did however just pick up McCalls 6128 and 5651 for making panties, which to me seem much more practical than a bra. I'll end up making them with the bags and bags of scraps and remnants left over from all my knit sewing projects.

  22. I think I will never say "no sew this or that" I am an avid sewing experiments, I like to sew curtains, clothes or home ... but I sew these parts to me, if I do not think I ever sew curtains for anyone outside the home.
Out of this .... Happy blog anniversary, I follow you for some time and enjoy every one of your adventures.

  23. Well since I am a brand new garment sewer, I don't know enough to be afraid of sewing anything! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  24. Quilts! There, I said it! I know that lots of people sew quilts and love it, but I have no desire to sew one. I would rather enjoy one that someone has made, instead of sewing one myself!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'm with you - no undies... Although considering how hard it is to find bras in my size (and the outrageous cost), I really should learn to make them...

PS Seems you've been really lucky on the give-a-ways lately!!! Congrats..

  26. I will usually try anything piece once. I have yet to make a bra. At this time, I don't seem to be ready to jump on a bra without a class.

  27. I've never refused to sew anything and I can't think of anything that would be an absolute NO! I have people bring me all kinds of things to sew and my husband is always pimping out my skills! My father in law wanted to buy an older boat that was in our area. We went and picked it up and my husband asked me to re-upholster the seats before we took it to him! I guess I'll try anything!

  28. I think that I will not sew undies or bras.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Well, I've made a pair of undies, jeans, a coat, a Mardi Gras dress, and I ALMOST made a swimsuit, which I plan to finish eventually, so I'll say NO menswear. My husband is just too picky!

  30. Hummmm, that's a hard question for me; I've never sewn undergarments and I don't think I ever will, so that will be my answer (but I reserve the right to change my mind in the future, lol!)

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'm a full-time mom and my sewing time is precious so I will NOT sew anything for pets or for anybody who is not dear to me or who I think wouldn't appreciate what it means to sacrifice my time to make something for them.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I would probably have to say no undergarments. The thought just doesn't interest me. I can buy those items for some much less than I can make them when I would factor in my time. This girl is never going to sew those items!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I don't think I can say there's anything I'd refuse to sew. Considering the limited time I have to sew, there's a lot of stuff that I probably will never bother with, especially when it can be bought cheaper (like linens). Still, I have this urge to be able to sew anything, just to be complete. I want to sew a bra just to say I did, even if I'll probably never do as good a job as RTW.

  34. My first sewing teacher was asked to sew an outfit for a little girl's beauty pageant. She refused to do it -- she didn't want to contribute to the sexualization of little girls. I am totally with her on that.

  35. I agree with you- I do not think I will ever- noticed I did not say never :) sew undergarments. Too easy to buy a set than make one.
